Forestry and adventure Barsberge
Hiking enthusiasts can set off on the Seehäuser Försterweg, an approximately 18 km long circular hiking trail. Along the way, you can take a break at the Barsberge forest lodge.
The Forsthaus Barsberge is idyllically situated on a hill in the Seehäuser Forst, a hilly forest area. For many years, it was the place of work of the respective district foresters and is now a restaurant for day trips.
It was made famous by the royal district forester Hahn, who worked there in 1861. When Nimroth, the forester's faithful dog, died, forester Hahn buried him near the forester's lodge and erected a gravestone with the inscription "To the faithful Nimroth". This was the beginning of today's dog cemetery. Over the years, countless graves have been added, with dedications and special memories for the deceased dogs. Not far from here is the forester's cemetery under old trees. Forester Hahn obtained permission to create a burial ground near the forester's lodge and set up a grave for his family there. The forester's cemetery also served as a final resting place for later foresters and residents of Barsberge.
A fallow deer enclosure, a bird aviary and a forest playground complete the forest experience.
