In accordance with the accident prevention regulations for cemeteries and crematoria (VSG 4.7), Section 9 requires that the stability of gravestones be checked at least once a year.

The test is conducted by a specialized company using a standardized procedure with a pressure testing machine. During the test, test loads are applied to verify stability and resistance to tipping; a manual “shake test” is not performed.
Defective gravestones identified during the inspection will be marked. Gravestones in acute danger of toppling over are secured, moved or dismantled in accordance with accident prevention regulations.
In the event of defects, the beneficiaries will receive a request to have the stability of the gravestone restored by an authorized sculptor or stonemason in accordance with the statutes and to provide the municipality with proof of this.
In this context, it is once again pointed out that the rightful user is liable for damage caused to persons or property by unstable gravestones.
