The Osterburg District Museum is opening its new art exhibition entitled "Magic of colors - from hobby to passion" on Sunday, 8 March. Acrylic paintings on canvas and wood by Brigitte Lobenstein will be on display in the exhibition space (Platz des Friedens, 39606 Osterburg) from Tuesdays to Fridays between 1 and 4 pm and on Sundays between 2 and 5 pm until April 26. After 2016, this is the second time that works by this artist have been on display at the Kreismuseum.
"The focus is on floral motifs, depictions of nature and symbolic pictorial themes, which are characterized by intense colours and a clear, figurative visual language," Florian Fischer reveals in advance. "The many animal portraits in the artist's subject matter are particularly great," continues the director of the Osterburg District Museum.
The museum's educational program picks up on this aspect and ties in with personal approaches, such as the question of one's own favourite animal or a familiar pet. Children and adults alike can get creative with the theme in painting and craft activities.
Brigitte Lobenstein was born in Seehausen in 1955 and grew up in Arendsee. She showed an interest in painting at an early age. After a long break for family reasons, she resumed her artistic activities in the 1990s and continued to develop them. Since then, she has exhibited regularly and presented her work in regional exhibitions and at art and craft markets.
All of the works on display were created using acrylic techniques. The frames of the pictures are predominantly refurbished found objects, which are lovingly restored and adapted by her husband - a deliberately sustainable approach that emphasizes the craftsmanship of the works.
The exhibition is an invitation to take in the color, motif and craftsmanship and to follow the personal development of an artist for whom painting has gone from a hobby to a passion.
