Greeting from the mayor of the municipality
We are pleased to welcome you to the website of the municipality of Seehausen (Altmark), the northernmost region in Saxony-Anhalt. The municipality of Seehausen (Altmark) consists of the five member municipalities of Aland, Altmärkische Höhe, Altmärkische Wische, the Hanseatic town of Seehausen and Zehrental. There are currently 9,420 inhabitants living here on a total area of approx. 438 km². The administrative headquarters is the town hall of the Hanseatic town of Seehausen, which is the geographical center of the municipality.
The region lies in a charming landscape characterized by the Elbe floodplains, the Wische and the Altmärkische Höhe. Be inspired by the flora and fauna, by the beautiful, sometimes small rural villages with their historic buildings, local history rooms and sights. Discover views over meadows, fields and cozy Altmark villages that have lost none of their picturesque charm. Whether by car, bike or on foot, the association municipality is well connected by rail, the federal highways 189 and 190 and many cycling and hiking trails. In the villages of the five member municipalities you will find vacation apartments, guesthouses and restaurants that invite you to linger.
The infrastructure includes nine daycare centers, two after-school care centers, two elementary schools, the Johann Joachim Winckelmann community school, a hospital, and facilities for senior citizen care. The sports and leisure facilities should also be mentioned. You can use the numerous cycling and hiking trails in the municipality for leisure activities or relax and enjoy sports in the forest pool of the Hanseatic city of Seehausen. For those who prefer a quieter pace, the library or the numerous museums and other tourist attractions, such as the Seehausen Tower Clock Museum, the Beuster Blue Light Museum, or the Wanzer post mill, are just the thing.
