The district administration is coordinating the campaign for the first time. With all the kilometers collected by June 23, the district has the chance to be named a "Newcomer Municipality".
A social media challenge was also set up during the tour: several mayors and District Administrator Puhlmann each nominated three people to take part in city cycling. Anyone who does not provide evidence of their own cycle tour within 24 hours has to hand out an ice cream.
Anyone interested can take part after registering free of charge at STADTRADELN.de. There you can join a municipality and a team or set up a team yourself.
CITY CYCLING is a nationwide campaign organized by the Climate Alliance. The aim is to get people excited about cycling in their everyday lives, promote cycling and collect as many bike kilometers as possible for their own municipality. The CITY CYCLING 2026 campaign is supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Digital Affairs and the Working Group of Bicycle-Friendly Municipalities.
