Driving licenses issued between 2002 and 2004 must be exchanged by January 19, 2027.
In Germany, all driving licenses issued between 2002 and 2004 must be exchanged by January 19, 2027 at the latest - including in the district of Stendal. Driving licenses with a later issue date are also subject to a staggered exchange deadline. To avoid long waiting times, it is strongly recommended that you plan your exchange well in advance. In recent years, bottlenecks have regularly occurred shortly before the deadline - especially around the holidays and the turn of the year.
Driving licenses issued between 2005 and 2007 must be exchanged by January 19, 2028. This is followed by the 2008, 2009 and 2010 years of issue until January 19, 2029, 2030 and 2031 respectively. People born before 1953 do not have to exchange their driving license until January 19, 2033, regardless of the year of issue.
The exchange to the EU card driving license is uncomplicated. First of all, you can book an appointment online. If no suitable online appointment is available, it is possible to make an appointment by telephone on 03931 607815 between 9 and 11 a.m., except on Wednesdays.
A valid identity card or passport, a biometric passport photo, the previous driver's license and the administration fee must be brought to the exchange appointment.
