With the wet and cold season upon us, cold season is also back. But what actually happens in my body when I have a cold, what are the typical symptoms, and what can I do about it myself? Rest, sleep, and staying well-hydrated are often the best ways to get through this infection. However, you should see a doctor if you experience certain symptoms, such as a high or persistent fever, a significant worsening of your general condition, or a cough that doesn’t go away or changes. In these cases, a medical examination is necessary to rule out conditions such as pneumonia. Attendees also learned why people develop a fever, when viruses and when bacteria are involved, and which symptoms require immediate medical attention. The topic of smoking also played a role in this presentation. Kaja vividly demonstrated the damage smoking causes to the lungs and explained that it is never too late to quit smoking. Another topic covered was the vaccinations recommended by STIKO (the Standing Committee on Vaccination). At the end of the presentation, there was time for questions, which Yogesh Kaja answered in detail.

Two more lectures are scheduled this year as part of the “Medicine in Dialogue” series. On November 18, 26, Chief Physician Bulla will discuss “Chronic Wounds—Preventable, Treatable?” and on December 16, 26, Chief Physician PD Dr. Jablonowski will discuss the topic “Outpatient Endoscopic Care.”
