An anniversary like that of the Seehausen Men’s Choir is a rare occasion in the Stendal district. To mark its 170th anniversary, the choir hosted an event on Saturday in the auditorium of the local community school. As part of a festive concert, accompanied musically by the Oldie Brass Band, Patrick Puhlmann—on behalf of the Stendal district—as well as Rüdiger Kloth (mayor of the Seehausen municipal association), Detlef Neumann (mayor of the Hanseatic City of Seehausen), as well as numerous friends and colleagues of the choir.
“170 years of the choir’s history mean far more than just a long period of time. They represent generations of men who have shared their love of singing, preserved traditions, and enriched cultural life in Seehausen and far beyond the town’s borders. Over many decades, the Seehausen Men’s Choir has provided musical accompaniment for numerous events, festivals, and celebrations, thereby playing a decisive role in shaping the cultural life of our region,” said Puhlmann. “For this, all active and former singers, as well as the club’s leaders, deserve our deepest thanks and recognition,” continued the district administrator, who also presented a certificate and a small gift.
Tradition and culture are keywords that Puhlmann then brought up again to draw the attention of the men’s choir, the oldies brass band, and all other guests to the competition “Das Heimatlied – Musical Treasures from Here”: “Many towns and villages have their own hometown song. Whether at village festivals, anniversaries, or club events—these songs have been cherished and sung in many places for generations. Others arose from their composers’ personal connection to their homeland. Nevertheless, these musical expressions of regional identity often remain unknown beyond local boundaries. With this competition, we aim to raise the profile of this special tradition and, at the same time, contribute to the preservation and appreciation of the regional song heritage.” Clubs, groups, and individuals are invited to participate until August 31.
